Mike Leibin—Head Coach |
|
Coach Mike Leibin enters his third season as Head Coach of the Lancer Football Program. During both of his first two years, the Lancers have qualified for the Northern Division Playoffs. In his second year, he guided the Lancers to a record of 10 wins and 2 losses (most wins in a season at Thousand Oaks since 1991). The 2008 Lancers finished with a 6-1 record in Marmonte League play, and earned the #4 seed in the Northern Division Playoffs. During the 2008 season Coach Leibin coordinated the offense, which ranked among the top units in Ventura County. In 2008, the Lancer offense re-wrote virtually every rushing record in the program’s history. Two players from the 2008 Lancers team received football scholarships to Division I Universities. John Lister (Running Back) signed a letter of intent to play football for the University of Hawaii, and Dereck Jester (Defensive Lineman) signed a letter of intent to play football at Portland State University. Coach Leibin brings fourteen years of high school coaching experience to his position with the Lancers. He coached on the lower levels his first five years at his previous school. He was promoted to Varsity Defensive Coordinator in 2000. During the seven (7) years Coach Leibin held that position, Westlake won four Marmonte League Championships (2000, 2002, 2003, and 2006), and the C.I.F. Division IV Championship in 2003 with a perfect 14-0 record. Westlake’s defense, under Coach Leibin, consistently ranked among the top defenses in the region allowing just over ten points per game versus Marmonte League schools during that time span. Coach Leibin has been a coordinator on a coaching staff that was honored as the Ventura County Coaching Staff of the Year four (4) times, and was honored as the Marmonte League Coaching Staff of the Year six (6) times. Coach Leibin played football at Westlake High School earning All-League and All-County honors at Wide Receiver in 1993 and 1994, as well as being awarded the coveted National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete award his senior year. Coach Leibin then attended Cal State Northridge earning his B.A. in Kinesiology in 1999. As a student at Cal State Northridge he earned Dean’s List recognition four (4) times, and was honored with the Dean’s Award in 1998 as the top Junior in his major. Coach Leibin currently teaches Physical Education at Thousand Oaks High School, and lives in Thousand Oaks with his wife, Lindsay. |

Chris Casillas - Assistant Head Coach / Defensive Coordinator |

Coach Chris Casillas enters his third year on the football staff at Thousand Oaks as the Assistant Head Coach, and his second years as Varsity Defensive Coordinator. In 2008, Coach Casillas lead a defensive unit that ranked among the top units in Ventura County. Coach Casillas played football for Thousand Oaks High School from 1990-1993. He was a standout at Tight End and Outside Linebacker. During his senior year, Coach Casillas wore the Green Helmet, joining an elite group of select players in the history of the school to represent the tradition. Coach Casillas earned All-League honors his Senior year as well. He went on to play one year of Strong Safety at Ventura College. Coach Casillas has coached every position throughout the seven years he has been coaching Varsity and Sophomore Football, including serving as the Special Teams Coordinator during the 2007 season. Coach Casillas earned his B.A. in Social Science from Cal State Northridge in 2005. He is currently teaching 11th grade History at Thousand Oaks High School. Coach Casillas and his supportive wife, Shannon, live in Thousand Oaks with their three children: Jaden, Payton, and Morgan. |

Keelan Woodruff - Offensive Line |

Coach Keelan Woodruff enters his third year with the Varsity Staff as an Offensive Line Coach. Coach Woodruff tutored an offensive line in 2008 that that virtually re-wrote every rushing record in school history. During the 2008 campaign, the Lancer ground game set marks for Most Yards Rushing in a Season and Game, Most Touchdowns Rushing in a Game, Most Rushing Attempts in a Game, and Most Points Scored in a Season. Coach Woodruff also served as the Offensive Line Coach for the Lancer Sophomore team in 2006, helping to guide them to a Marmonte League Championship with a 9-1 record. The 2006 Lancer Sophomore Staff was honored as the Marmonte League and Ventura County Coaching Staff of the Year. Coach Woodruff also coached five (5) years as an assistant with the Titans program. He is a 2005 graduate of Thousand Oaks, where he played all four (4) years on the Offensive Line. Coach Woodruff is currently attending Moorpark College. |

Joey Casillas - Defensive Backs / Special Teams Coordinator |

Coach Casillas enters his second year as the Varsity Defensive Backs Coach, bringing three years of coaching experience to the Lancer Football Staff, having served has the Defensive Coordinator in 2005 at Moorpark College. In addition to coaching the Defensive Backs, Coach Casillas will coordinate the Special Teams this fall. Coach Casillas was a three-year starter for the Lancers from ’96-’98. Coach Casillas wore the Green Helmet, joining an elite group of select players in the history of the school to represent the tradition. Coach Casillas earned All-CIF honors as a defensive back in 1997 and 1998. Coach Casillas went on to earn All-Western State Conference honors in 2000 and 2001 at Moorpark College. While at Moorpark College Coach Casillas was honored with the Pepsi Scholar-Athlete Award in 2001. Coach Casillas went on to play Defensive Back and Special Teams at Fresno State University in 2002. Coach Casillas earned his B.A. in Speech Communication from Fresno State University. Coach Casillas works for National Positions and lives in Thousand Oaks. |

David Winer - Defensive Line |

Coach Winer enters his second year as a Coach with the Lancer Staff. Coach Winer tutored four Defensive Linemen in 2008 who earned Green Helmet Honors (Dereck Jester – Portland State, Josh Bounds, Colin Nakos, and Tyler Williams). Coach Winer played for Coach Leibin at Westlake High School. Coach Winer was a two-year starter at Defensive Tackle in 2002 and 2003. Both years his team captured Marmonte League Championships and qualified for the CIF Div. IV Finals – Winning the CIF DIV. IV Championsip in 2003. Coach Winer earned 1st Team All-League and All-County, as well as 1st Team All-Region while playing Defensive Tackle. Coach Winer earned a scholarship to UC Davis, where he played on the Offensive and Defensive Lines for the Aggies. Coach Winer is currently working toward his degree at Cal State Channel Islands. |

Brad Wangerin – Varsity Linebackers / Sophomore Defensive Coordinator |

Coach Wangerin returns in his third year coaching with the Lancer Staff. Coach Wangerin assumes his new role as Varsity Linebackers and Sophomore Defensive Coordinator after being the Freshman Defensive Coordintor for two seasons. Coach Wangerin played Inside Linebacker under Coach Leibin in 2005 and 2006. He was a key contributor on a defense that helped capture the 2006 Marmonte League Championship. Coach Wangerin earned All-League honors as a Senior. A bright player who proved to have a great understanding of the game, Coach Wangerin was responsible for many on-field checks and calls. Coach Wangerin was also a standout on Westlake’s Lacrosse team. Coach Wangerin is attending Moorpark College, and intends to pursue a career in the film industry. Coach Wangerin lives in Thousand Oaks. |

JASON OPSAL – Wide Receivers /Sophomore Offensive Coordinator |

Coach Jason Opsal brings six (6) years coaching experience to the Lancer staff. Coach Opsal served as the Wide Receivers coach in 2008. In 2007, he served as the Co-Offensive Coordinator with the Lancers. Coach Opsal was the Sophomore Offensive Coordinator in 2006, helping guide them to a Marmonte League Championship with a 9-1 record. The 2006 Lancer Sophomore Staff was honored as the Marmonte League and Ventura County Coaching Staff of the Year. Before joining the Lancers, Coach Opsal held positions as the Safeties Coach at Pacific Lutheran University, Running Backs Coach at Cal Lutheran University, and Defensive Backs Coach at Gustavus Adolphus College. Coach Opsal earned All-Conference and All-State honors as a QB at Buffalo High School in Minnesota. He then went on to start for three (3) years at Safety at Gustavus Adolphus College. Coach Opsal received his B.A. in Health and Physical Education from Gustavus Adolphus in 2004. Coach Opsal teaches Physical Education at Westlake Hills Elementary, and he lives in Thousand Oaks. |

Steve Weerts – Scouting Coordinator |

Coach Weerts is a 1994 graduate of Thousand Oaks High School and returns to the TO Varsity staff for a third year as Scouting Coordinator, bringing 14 years of coaching experience to the staff. Coach Weerts played Center and Defensive Tackle, alongside Coach Casillas, on the 1992 and 1993 TO Varsity teams. Coach Weerts is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University. While attending college, he was a 4-year starter on LMU’s Rugby team and captained the team in his senior year. After graduation, Coach Weerts returned to TOHS and coached the Offensive Line and Linebackers for the 1998 and 1999 Varsity teams. From 2000 through 2004, Coach Weerts worked with the youth football players on the Thousand Oaks Titans Senior teams. Coach Weerts is an attorney specializing in international tax. He works for the law firm, DLA Piper, in Century City. Coach Weerts lives in Porter Ranch with his supportive wife Annie. |

Casey Preston – Varsity Quarterbacks |

Coach Preston is entering his first season coaching for the Lancer staff. Coach Preston brings two years coaching experience, most recently serving as the Varsity Quarterbacks Coach at Crespi High School. In high school, Coach Preston earned All-League, All-County, and All-State honors at Quarterback in 1995 and 1996. Coach Preston still holds school records for most yards passing in a single season (3,800), most touchdown passes in a single season (37), and was on the throwing end of the longest play from scrimmage (99 yards). Coach Preston went on to star at Pasadena City College where he earned 1st Team All-Mission Conference, as well as JC Gridwire 1st Team All-America honors in 1998. Coach Preston earned a full scholarship to Missouri State Universtiy. Coach Preston was a Team Captain and starting Quarterback at Cal Lutheran University in 2002 and 2003. Coach Preston graduated from CLU in 2003 with a B.A. in Communications. Coach Preston is a Regional Sales Director for Aqua Spring Drinking Water, and lives in Thousand Oaks. |

Eric Schneider – Head Sophomore Coach |

Coach Schneider enters his fifth year coaching in the Lancer program, and he coached in the Titans program for six (6) years. All totaled, Coach Schneider has coached for 19 years at various levels. Most recently he was the Freshman coach, leading them to an 8-2 record in 2007. As Head Coach of the Sophomore team in 2006, he guided them to a 9-1 Marmonte League Championship season. The 2006 Lancer Sophomore Staff was honored as the Marmonte League and Ventura County Coaching Staff of the Year. Coach Schneider played Quarterback at Arroyo High School. Coach Schneider earned a B.S. in Real Estate Finance from San Diego State University in 1988. Coach Schneider then went on to complete post-graduate work at UCLA and Michigan State University. Coach Schneider is a Property Manager for an east coast private equity firm. He lives in Thousand Oaks with his supportive wife, Kim. Coach Schneider’s son Stefan graduated from Thousand Oaks in 2009, and Cameron (Senior) plays football for the Lancers. |

Coach Steiner enters his second year with the Lancer Coaching Staff. Coach Steiner was a kicker, punter and defensive back for the Lancers in 1999 and 2000. Coach Steiner was also a standout second baseman for the Lancers. Coach Steiner went on two play two seasons of baseball at Oxnard College. Coach Steiner was the Head Freshman Baseball Coach the last two years for the Lancers. |

Clint Cummings – Varsity Slot Receivers & Tight Ends |

Coach Cummings enters his first year with the Lancer Coaching and Teaching Staffs. Coach Cummings brings eleven (11) years coaching experience to his new position at Thousand Oaks High School. He has previously coached at Crespi, Fairview, Oaks Christian, and Agoura High Schools. Coach Cummings has coached Defensive Backs, Running Backs, Wide Receivers, and has served as a JV Offensive Coordinator. Coach Cummings was a standout Fullback at Crespi High School in 1989 and 1990, serving as Team Captain in 1990. Coach Cummings eanred his B.A. in Kinesiology from the University of Northern Colorado. Coach Cummings taught Special Education at Agoura High School for eight years. He will be teaching Special Education at Thousand Oaks High School this fall. Coach Cummings lives in Moorpark with his supportive wife, Curran , and their two children, Calvin age 4 and Kaya age 1. |

David Ruelas - Sophomore Line Coach |

Coach Ruelas returns in his third year coaching with the Lancer Staff. Coach Ruelas was an All-League and All-County Defensive Tackle starting on Coach Leibin’s defense in 2005 and 2006. He was the only two-way starter on both lines for a team that won the Marmonte League Championship and finished 12-1 his senior year. Coach Ruelas proved to a have a great understanding of the game on both sides of the ball. Coach Ruelas is currently attending Moorpark College where he is looking to pursue a career in film or radiology. Coach Ruelas has lived in Thousand Oaks his entire life. |

Scott Barry - Head Freshman Coach |

Coach Barry brings seven (8) years of youth coaching experience to the Lancer Football Staff. Coach Barry enters his second years as Head Freshman Coach for the Lancers. Recently, Coach Barry was honored as a recipient of the Bill Lawrence Coaching Award. Coach Barry played Fullback and Linebacker in high school, earning All-County Honors his senior season. Coach Barry went on to play Linebacker at the University of Arizona for two season. Coach Barry also played one year of Semi-Pro Football for the Japan Seahawks. Coach Barry earned his B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix. Coach Barry is a Government Employee for the Department of Justice. Coach Barry currently lives in Westlake Village with his supportive wife, Michelle, and their three children, Cassandra, Christian, and Chase. Cassandra is a 2008 graduate of Thousand Oaks HS, and Christian is a Sophomore Football player for the Lancers. |

Steve Spadaro – Freshman Offensive Coordinator |

Before joining the Lancer Staff in 2007, Coach Spadaro had previously coached at Alemany, Moorpark, Calabasas, and Westlake High Schools. Coach Spadaro received his Bachelors Degree from Cal State Northridge in 1971 and a Masters in Business Administration in 1975. As a player he played both QB and OLB. Coach Spadaro was the Head Sophomore Coach in 2008, guiding the Lancer Sophomores to an 8-2 record and a Marmonte League Championship. Coach Spadaro’s Sophomore Staff was honored as the Marmonte League Coaching Staff of the Year. In his previous coaching stint, Coach Spadaro and lead the Westlake JV’s to a 53-5-2 record including two (2) undefeated seasons. His staff was twice honored as Ventura County Coaches of the Year. Coach Spadaro lives in Thousand Oaks with his wife Kim and two sons. He is the owner of ESSEX ENTERPRISES, a real estate investment firm, and ESSEX TAX a full service tax planning and preparation firm. |

Coach Henle brings three years of Football and Wrestling coaching experience to the Lancer Football Staff. Coach Henle was a Graduate Assistant Coach at Cal Lutheran before joining the Lancer Wrestling Staff in 2007. Coach Henle was a standout Offensive and Defensive Lineman at Lompoc High School. He then went on to play Defensive Line at Cal Lutheran University. Coach Henle earned his M.B.A. in Financial Planning from Cal Lutheran University. Coach Henle is currently working on his teaching credentials, while substitute teaching in the Conejo Valley Unified School District. |

Coach Winkler brings eight (8) years coaching experience at the youth and high school levels to the Lancer Sophomore Staff. Coach Winkler played Running Back and Defensive Back for the 1982 Westlake Marmonte League Championship team, earning All-League honors. Coach Winkler went on to play Wide Receiver and Defensive Back at Moorpark College. Coach Winkler earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from San Diego State University. He has been a resident of the Conejo Valley since 1970. Coach Winkler is an Information Systems Manager at Amgen. He currently resides in Thousand Oaks with his supportive wife, Karla, and his two daughters, Jill and Lindsey. Jill is currently a senior at Thousand Oaks High School. |

Coach Weber enters his second year with the Lancer Football Staff. Coach Weber was a standout Football player at Westlake High School. Coach Weber is currently a Captain with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Coach Weber currently lives in Moorpark with his supportive wife, Cheryl. They have two children, Danielle and Brittany. |

Coach Pertessis returns for his third year working with the Lancer program. Coach Pertessis was a standout wide receiver at Brooklyn Tech High School in 1979 and 1980. Coach Pertessis went on to USC where he graduated with Advanced Degrees in Engineering in 1989. Coach Pertessis has worked with the Conejo Youth Flag Football Association for the past ten years, previously serving as the President of the organization from 2006-2008. Coach Pertessis is currently the Chairman of the Board for the C.Y.F.F.A. Coach Pertessis is currently a self-employed Engineer. He lives in Thousand Oaks with his supportive wife, Sue, and their two children, George and Grace Ann. |
